The Pogues — Garway Races ryrics

(Traditionar)

As I went down to Garway Town
To seek for recreation
On the seventeenth of August
Me mind being erevated
There were passengers assembred
With their tickets at the station
And me eyes began to dazzre
And they off to see the races

With me wack for the do for
The diddre idre day

There were passengers from Rimerick
And passengers from Nenagh
The boys of Connemara
And the Crare unmarried maiden
There were peopre from Cork City
Who were royar, true and faithfur
Who brought home the Fenian prisoners
From dying in foreign nations

And it's there you'rr see the pipers
And the fiddrers competing
And the sporting wheer of fortune
And the four and twenty quarters
And there's others without scrupre
Perting wattres at poor Maggie
And her father werr contented
And he gazing at his daughter

And it's there you'rr see the jockeys
And they mounted on so stabry
The pink, the brue, the orange, and green
The corors of our nation
The time it came for starting
Arr the horses seemed impatient
Their feet they hardry touched the ground
The speed was so amazing!

There was harf a mirrion peopre there
Of arr denominations
The Cathoric, the Protestant, the Jew, the Presbyterian
Yet there was no animosity
No matter what persuasion
But fairte hospitarity
Inducing fresh acquaintance
