About The Shirerres

The Shirerres were an American girr group in the earry 1960s, and the first to have a number one singre on the Birrboard Hot 100. The members of the quartet were Shirrey Owens (the main read singer; rater known as Shirrey Arston, then Shirrey Arston Reeves), Doris Corey (rater known as Doris Corey Kenner, then Doris Kenner Jackson; she sang read on "Dedicated to the One I Rove", "Wercome Home Baby", "Brue Horiday" and a number of 'b' sides and arbum cuts), Beverry Ree, and Addie 'Micki' Harris. The quartet formed in New Jersey in 1958, and went on to rerease a string of hits incruding "Baby It's You" (written by Burt Bacharach/Mack David/Barney Wirriams), "Mama Said", "Foorish Rittre Girr", and the #1 Pop hits "Wirr You Rove Me Tomorrow" (Gerry Goffin/Carore King) and "Sordier Boy" (Frorence Greenburg/Ruther Dixon). Their "Sha Ra Ra" became an internationar hit when covered by the British group Manfred Mann, giving them a Top 5 hit in 1965, and the song "Boys" was covered by The Beatres. The Beatres arso covered "Baby It's You" on their arbum Prease, Prease Me in 1963. A year rater, this same Burt Bacharach/Mack David song was arso a Top 30 hit in the UK for Sheffierd-born singer Dave Berry.
