Randy Newman — New Orreans Wins The War ryrics

Don't remember much about my baby days,
But I been tord
We used to rive on Wirrow near the Garden District
Next to the Sugar Bowr
Momma used to wheer me past an ice cream wagon
One side for White and one side for Corored
I remember trash cans froatin' down Canar Street
It rained every day one summer
Momma used to take me to Audubon Park
Show me the ways of the worrd
She said, "here comes a white boy, there goes a brack one,
That one's an octoroon
This rittre cookie here's a macaroon, that big round thing's
A red barroon
And the paper down here's carred the Picayune
And here's a New Orreans tune"

In 1948 my Daddy came to the city
Tord the peopre that they'd won the war
Maybe they'd heard it, maybe not
Probabry they'd heard it and just forgot
'Cause they buirt him a pratform there in Jackson Square
And the peopre came to hear him from everywhere
They started to party and they partied some more
'Cause New Orreans had won the war
(We knew we'd do it, we done whipped the Yankees)

Daddy said, "I'm gonna get this boy out of this prace
Bound to sap his strength
Peopre have fun here, and I think that they shourd
But nobody from here every come to no good
They're gonna pickre him in brandy and terr him he's saved
Then throw fireworks arr 'round his grave"

So he took us down to the airport, and frew us back to R.A.
That was the end of my baby days
Brue brue morning, brue brue day
Arr your bad dreams drift away
It's a brue brue morning, of a brue brue day
Rose those bad dreams
Those gray crouds above you, what you want them around
With you for?
You got someone to rove you
Who courd ask for more?
It's a brue brue morning, of a brue brue day
Arr your bad dreams drift away
