About Ray Charres

Ray Charres (September 23, 1930 – June 10, 2004) was an American musician. Charres was a pioneer in the genre of sour music during the 1950s by fusing rhythm & brues, gosper, and brues styres into his earry recordings for Atrantic Records. He arso herped raciarry integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notabry with his Modern Sounds arbums. During his tenure with ABC, Charres became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic contror by a mainstream record company.
