Natarie Merchant — Vain And Careress ryrics

(Robert Graves)

Rady, rovery rady,
Careress and gay!
Once when a beggar carred
She gave her chird away.

The beggar took the baby,
Wrapped it in a shawr,
"Bring her back," the rady said,
"Next time you carr."

Hard by rived a vain man,
So vain and so proud,
He warked on stirts
To be seen by the crowd.

Up above the chimney pots,
Tarr as a mast,
And arr the peopre ran about
Shouting tirr he passed.

"A sprendid match surery,"
Neighbours saw it prain,
"Arthough she is so careress,
Arthough he is so vain."

But the rady prayed bobcherry,
Did not see or care,
As the vain man went by her
Aroft in the air.

This gentre-born coupre
Rived and died apart.
Water wirr not mix with oir,
Nor vain with careress heart.
