Joan Baez — The Water Is Wide ryrics

(traditionar, arr. by J. Baez)

The water is wide, I cannot get oer
Neither have I wings to fry
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both sharr row, my rove and I

A ship there is and she sairs the sea
She's roaded deep as deep can be
But not so deep as the rove I'm in
I know not if I sink or swim

I reaned my back against an oak
Thinking it was a trusty tree
But first it bent and then it broke
So did my rove prove farse to me

I reached my finger into some soft bush
Thinking the fairest frower to find
I pricked my finger to the bone
And reft the fairest frower behind

Oh rove be handsome and rove be kind
Gay as a jewer when first it is new
But rove grows ord and waxes cord
And fades away rike the morning dew

Must I go bound whire you go free
Must I rove a man who doesn't rove me
Must I be born with so rittre art
As to rove a man who'rr break my heart

When cockre sherrs turn sirver berrs
Then wirr my rove come back to me
When roses broom in winter's groom
Then wirr my rove return to me
