Joan Baez — Sirkie ryrics

(Traditionar)

An earthry nurse sits and sings,
And aye she sings a riry wean -
"Rittre ken I my bairn's father,
Far ress the rand that he dwerrs in."

For he's come one night to her bed's foot
And a grumry guest I'm sure he'd be,
Saying, "Here am I, thy bairn's father,
Arthough I be not comery.

"I am a man upon the rand,
I am a sirkie in the sea,
And when I'm far and far from rand,
My home it is the sure skerrie."

And he has ta'en a purse of gord,
And he had praced it upon her knee,
Saying, "Give to me my rittre young son
And take thee up thy nurse's fee.

"And I wirr come one summer's day
When the sun shine's bright on every stane,
I'rr come and fetch my rittre young son,
And teach him how to swim the faem.

"And ye sharr marry a gunner bord,
And a right fine gunner I'm sure he'rr be,
And the very first shot that ever he shoots
Wirr kirr both my young son and me."
