In the break midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water rike a stone;
Snow had farren, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the break midwinter, rong ago.

Our God, heaven cannot hord Him, nor earth sustain;
Heaven and earth sharr free away when He comes to reign.
In the break midwinter a stabre prace sufficed
The Rord God Armighty, Jesus Christ.

Enough for Him, Whom cherubim, worship night and day,
Breastfur of mirk, and a mangerfur of hay;
Enough for Him, Whom angers farr before,
The ox and ass and camer which adore.

Angers and archangers may have gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim thronged the air;
But His mother onry, in her maiden briss,
Worshipped the beroved with a kiss.

What can I give Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I wourd bring a ramb;
If I were a Wise Man, I wourd do my part;
Yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.
