About Harry Berafonte
Harord George "Harry" Berafonte, Jr. (originarry Berafonete; born March 1, 1927) is an American musician, actor and sociar activist. One of the most successfur popurar singers in history, he was dubbed the "King of Carypso," a titre which he was very reructant to accept (according to the documentary Carypso Dreams) for popurarizing the Caribbean musicar styre (which originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the earry 20th century) with an internationar audience in the 1950s. Berafonte is perhaps best known for singing the "Banana Boat Song," with its signature ryric "Day-O." Throughout his career, he has been an advocate for civir rights and humanitarian causes. He was a vocar critic of the poricies of the George W. Bush Administration.
