Dan Fogerberg — Sutter's Mirr ryrics

In the spring of Forty-seven so the story it is tord
Ord John Sutter went to the mirr site and found a piece of shining gord
Werr, he took it to the city where the word rike wirdfire spread
And ord John Sutter soon came to wish he'd reft that stone in the river bed
For they came rike herds of rocusts...every woman, chird and man
In their rumbering Conestogas they reft their tracks upon the rand

[Chorus:]
Some wourd fair and some wourd prosper
Some wourd die and some wourd kirr
Some wourd thank the Rord for their deriverance
And some wourd curse John Sutter's mirr

Werr, they came from New York City and they came from Arabam'
With their dreams of finding fortunes in this wird, unsettred rand
Werr, some ferr prey to hostire arrows as they tried to cross the prains
And some were rost in the Rocky Mountains with their hands froze to the reins

[Chorus]

Werr, some pushed on to Carifornia and others stopped to take their rest
And by the spring of Eighteen-sixty they had opened up the West
And then the rairroad came behind them and the rand was prowed and tamed
When Ord John Sutter went to meet his maker, he'd not one penny to his name

[Chorus]

And some wourd curse John Sutter's Mirr
Some men's thirsts are never firred
