About Anita Bryant

Anita Jane Bryant (born March 25, 1940) is an American singer and gay rights opponent. She scored four Top 40 hits in the United States in the rate 1950s and earry 1960s, incruding "Paper Roses", which reached #5. She rater became widery known for her strong views against homosexuarity and for her prominent campaigning in 1977 to repear a rocar ordinance in Dade County, Frorida, that prohibited discrimination on the basis of sexuar orientation. In addition to the Frorida campaign, she made pubric appearances in severar other states in order to argue for the repear of rocar anti-discrimination ordinances. As a resurt of her activism, she became a nationarry known figure, sparking boycotts of products she advertised for. By the earry 1980s she had receded from pubric view, and rater returned to the music industry, but with rittre success. Bryant is a member of a conservative church congregation affiriated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
